Acknowledgement of Country

We pay our respects to the Traditional custodians of country, to the Elders, past and present. We acknowledge today’s Aboriginal community on all of lutruwita, who are the custodians of this island, and we recognise their continuing connection to land, waters, and culture. Always was, always will be.

Food into the future

26 July 2024

Beginning with fermentation ...

The construction of the Fermentation Hub underway in Legana will secure a fermentation industry grounded in ancient traditions and put Tasmania at the cutting edge of future foods. Then August brings agriCULTURED, an extravaganza of food events  including fermentation workshops, dinners and the opportunity to invest in groundbreaking startups in food tech. Registration for qualifications in fermentation at the University of Tasmania are open, inspiring research into valorising fruit waste is underway and read on for information about exciting opportunities for women in horticulture and the next round of grant assistance for enabling small business growth in Tasmania.

Explore the age-old tradition of preserving vegetables with Lauren Brown and agriCULTURED at Fermentation Activation on Saturday 3rd August.  Make sure you get your tickets here for the hands on workshop at Harvest Launceston Community Farmers’ Market.

Startupbootcamp Australia in partnership with FermenTas is at the forefront of investing in food innovation and sustainability. Become part of this ecosystem, hear from the startups making the difference, their stories and commitment to being part of a future where food is not wasted and there is enough for all.  Meet the investors who are championing these new business and products from infancy to success. Join agriCULTURED where the conversations are all about ethical investing in the future of food, farming, research and development. Hear the startups pitch and decide where you will invest your "agri-dollars" for a more sustainable agricultural landscape. Doing good is good for business advocate, Ben Peacock, will be just one of the speakers at  'The XX Factor: Cultivating Change through Ethical Investment' on Friday 2nd of August.

agriCULTURED 2024 is not only hosting an exceptional lineup of speakers, featuring renowned voices in agriculture, agritourism, sustainability, and food innovation but creating feasts from local soup kitchens to dinners with ferments, fire and science. Take a garden tour and journey into the north of the State for a unique agritourism experience.

After the sun sets on Saturday 3rd August  meet on the deck at Timbre@Velo to turn turn up the heat with Fire+Ferment, for a feast of local produce where the talk about what we eat and how we grow it continues over mulled cider and fermented treats.
