We pay our respects to the Traditional custodians of country, to the Elders, past and present. We acknowledge today’s Aboriginal community on all of lutruwita, who are the custodians of this island, and we recognise their continuing connection to land, waters, and culture. culture is where we start  ...

Wondering about fermentation, what it means, where to learn about growing cultures and how to become involved, then Fermentation Tasmania has the answer.

Along the West Tamar Highway near Legana in the north of Tasmania, work is underway on the hub for fermentation with concrete slabs being laid and construction forging ahead on the new centre of excellence in fermentation.

Meanwhile back in town, our academic partner, the University of Tasmania is accepting enrolments for the next semesters fermentation courses. Irrespective of your ability and knowledge there is a fermentation course that will be right for you.

Then on the first weekend in August in Launceston, the coolest deep winter events gets underway. agriCULTURED 2024 is hosting an exceptional lineup of speakers, featuring renowned voices in agriculture, sustainability, and food innovation, feasts from local soup kitchens to dinners with ferments, garden tours and book launch and fermentation workshop. 

Agriculture is so much more than farms and farmers and each of us play an essential part. Agriculture puts the foods on our tables, the clothes on our back, are stewards of our environment and the cornerstone to our future. At agriCULTURED 2024 be inspired by the insights and expertise of speakers and participants as they share their experiences from paddocks to kitchens and beyond.

Keynote speaker Paul West, co-founder of Grow it Local will share his journey and visions for sustainable living. Doing good is good for business advocate, Ben Peacock, will be just one of the speakers at  'The XX Factor: Cultivating Change through Ethical Investment' on Friday 2nd of August. Speakers across the various steams at Conversations in the City are advocates of sustainable agriculture, agritourism, and investment in making agriculture work for Australia.

Together with Startupbootcamp Australia, FermenTas is hosting conversations,  a sauerkraut workshop and a feast at Timbre  featuring fire and ferments.

  • Friday 2nd August: Conversations in the City-FermenTas in collaboration with Startupbootcamp  will be presenting the XX Factor-Cultivating Change through Ethical Investment. Step into the future of farming with six pioneering startups who are set to pitch their visions to a panel of ethical investors, each aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), paving the way for a more sustainable agricultural landscape.
  • Saturday 3rd August: Fermentation Activation - A hands on workshop to make your own sauerkraut at Harvest Launceston Community Farmers’ Market
  • Saturday 3rd August: After the sun sets….After the sun seats turn up the heat with Fire+Ferment, a feast of local produce at Timbre Kitchen
